What is Interreg Öresund-Kattegat-Skagerrak?

The EU programme Interreg Öresund-Kattegat-Skagerrak aims to invest €140 million, in cross-border projects that solve common societal challenges in southern Scandinavia, for the programme period 2021-2027.

The following regions are included within Interreg Öresund-Kattegat-Skagerrak: 1. The North Denmark Region, 2. Central Jutland, 3. Zealand, 4. The Capital Region of Denmark, 5. Skåne, 6. Halland, 7. Västra Götaland, 8. Østfold, 9. Akershus, 10. Oslo, 11. Vestfold, 12. Buskerud, 13. Telemark, and 14. Agder.

We are convinced that cross-border cooperation not only brings us closer to one another, but it also adds value. Our different perspectives in Denmark, Sweden and Norway make us richer in knowledge and problem solving, so that one plus one can become three.

The projects we fund span national borders in 11 Swedish, Danish, and Norwegian regions. The projects work to solve societal challenges within four thematic areas: Innovation and Entrepreneurship, Green Transition, Transport and Mobility and Borderless Labour Market.

The money that Interreg Öresund-Kattegat-Skagerrak invests comes primarily from the European Regional Development Fund. Part of the money also comes from the Norwegian state making the three-country cooperation by Öresund-Kattegat-Skagerrak possible.

Today, more than ten million people live in areas around the Öresund-Kattegat-Skagerrak. There are two capital cities and more than 30 universities in the programme area. It is a strong area with a shared history dating back many thousands of years.

To apply for funding, you must operate in the areas of Öresund-Kattegat-Skagerrak, or you can be a part of a national organisation in Sweden, Denmark or Norway that will benefit the area with your project.

Through Interreg, a development that drives change for companies, municipalities, regions, and countries is emphasized. A change that also benefits Europe and the world, but which above all contributes to a better life for the people living in southern Scandinavia.

That is why the collaboration that we promote is so important. Societal problems do not stop at the border. Neither do the solutions.

What is Interreg Öresund-Kattegat-Skagerrak?

An EU programme that works to strengthen European territorial cooperation, i.e. cross-border cooperation. We do this by funding projects that want to solve common societal challenges by finding common solutions across national borders in southern Scandinavia.

Where can you find us?

Our projects work across the following 11 Danish, Swedish and Norwegian regions around the area of Öresund-Kattegat-Skagerrak; Skåne, Halland, Västra Götaland, The Capital Region of Denmark, Region Zealand, Region Central Denmark, The North Denmark Region, Agder, Oslo, Vestfold og Telemark og Viken. We have employees in offices in Copenhagen, Gothenburg and Malmö

What is a project?

For us, a project consists of a partnership between at least two partners from at least two of the three countries in which the programme operates. The partners can be both public and private organisations, but not sole proprietors or private individuals. A project must also meet specific criteria to receive funding and must fit into one of our four thematic areas. Our projects usually have a 3-year course, while our preliminary projects typically have course of 1 year.

Where does the money come from?

Most of the money that we invest in projects comes from the European Regional Development Fund. In projects with Norwegian partners, the money also comes from the Norwegian state, as Norway is not a member of the EU. Projects that receive funding from us must also provide co-financing of 40-50 percent.
